Peter Michael is one of the finest producers of wine in California. Peter Michael makes 100pt Parker and sits in a zone that right between Napa and Sonoma called Knights Valley. Now right across the street from Peter Michael is the wine I bring to you today. It is a totally undervalued insider Cab that rivals the greats. Have you ever heard of John Kongsgaard, he is one of the greatest Winemakers in California, again makes 100pt Parker, is mentor to great Winemakers like Andy Erickson and Abe Schoener. Kongsgaard has been a huge fan of the vineyard where today’s wine comes from Grables Vineyard and has been instrumental in the making of these wines and how they are made. The vineyard is owned by Michael and Amy Grable who have reached their goal of making highly collectible, cellar worthy Cab. I have been secure a small lot of the spectacular 2009 Grable Vineyards ‘Patience Vineyard’ Cabernet that flipped my lid when I tasted it.
Tastes like Michael’s Les Pavot at a fraction of the price, actually about 25% of the price. This Cab kills it at any price, pinnacle quality, undervalued winner!
2009 Grable Vineyards “Patience” Cabernet Sauvignon The 2009 vintage provided ideal weather conditions. The long, mild growing season allowed for beautiful ripening of fruit with extended hang time on the vines. Michael planted the Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 6, Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 338,Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot) in 2003. The vineyard sits at 510 feet above sea level. Soil is deep, well-drained and consists of gravel, sand and clay. Because of the excellent drainage, the roots must grow deep to seek water, so the crop yields are much lower and berries are smaller with greater flavor concentration. The alluvial soil provides the mineral component that gives the wines added complexity and cellaring capability. Truffle, chocolate, blackberry and cassis-scented bouquet, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and fabulous concentration, purity and density. Drink now through 2030.
