2018 Martin Ray Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
2018 Martin Ray Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Deep notes of black currant, and touches of elderberry and vanilla. Fresh marionberry and cherry throughout, with graphite, mountain sage and supple, integrated tannins. Winemaker
Deep and manicured with blueberry and blackberry aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and tight with super polished tannins and a tight, racy finish. Beautifully crafted tannins make this exciting. Better after 2022, but already beautiful. 93pts Suckling
Martin Ray was a California wine pioneer, a historical figure, who made great wines from 1943 to 1972. His style was complexity and elegance and developed what is now one of the most historical properties in California, known as Mount Eden which makes some of the finest Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet in California today. Many years later Coutney Benham, a leader himself in quality and top bottlings from Napa for the last thirty years, stumbled upon 1500 cases of Martin Ray wine in a San Jose warehouse. This was lost wine treasure and Benham realized the huge significance Martin Ray had on California. Wanting to keep the name alive he purchased the brand in 1990. The name Martin Ray has become synonymous with quality wine. Today, Courtney and his winemaking team devote themselves to Ray’s ideology of making “wines of place”.
