Red Wine from Bordeaux, France
2019 is a great vintage for the Garves. Parker’s WA gave the vintage 96pts calling the wines extraordinary. I found this gem at a large importer tasting, Fran Kysela who is recognized as one of the great American palates . Parkers on Fran Kysela, “One of the finest palates and selectors of top wine” What I loved about the 2019 Chateau Crabitey was is spectacular quality for the and how superbly it was drinking. Galloni at Vinous gave the wine a drinking window of 2022-2029 and I totally agree. If you are looking for a superb Bordeaux at a great price to enjoy over the colder months, this is your wine.
Graves is famous for Bordeaux, home to First Growth, Chateau Haut Brion and many other collectible, very pricey, famous wines. Château Crabitey is situated in the town of Portets, a sweet spot of the Garves. The Chateau was built in 1872 by Franciscan nuns who used it as an orphanage. The nuns planted vines in order to provide an income for the children in their care. The great vineyards of the Graves benefit from the cooling influence of the Garonne River just to east, and the deep gravel soils add minerality and complexity to the wines. I have only thirty cases to offer and we had to beg to get them.

“Juicy, fruity, sweet and fresh with vibrant plums, a touch of cocoa and tobacco leaf. The touch of spice delivers complexity and the dusty tannins in the finish give it a nice backbone. Drink from 2022-2029.”
“The 2019 Crabitey is impressive, just as it was en primeur. Bright redtoned fruit, white chocolate, flowers, gravel and mint give the 2019 quite a bit of freshness and energy that builds over time. This mid-weight, wonderfully expressive Graves is a winner.- Antonio Galloni”
