Madeira wine is an extremely rare wine to find with very Limited availability, being a unique wine produced in the Madeira island, in Portugal.
Madeira Island has volcanic soil and sub-tropical climate with unique grape varieties, usually six different grape varieties are used for its production: Terrantez (Medium Sweet) – Boal (Medium Sweet) – Malmsey (Sweet) – Sercial (Dry) – Verdelho (Medium Dry) – Tinta Negra (Medium Sweet or Medium Dry) . This delicious liquorous wine is famously used to cook but it is also an amazing aperitif with incredibly rich nose and mouth flavours and a very pleasant, but shorter after taste.
Pereira D’Oliveira is one of the greatest of the classic Madeira shippers, and one of the few to survive the pre-phylloxera era. The family owned producer was established in 1820 and have since perfected a distinctive house style, rich in powerful aromatics and incredible structure. They are most known for their supreme vintage madeira from their own prized vineyard plots in Sao Martinho, considered the best vineyard area on the island.
The resort town of São Martinho do Porto sits on one of the most unique coastal features of Portugal and is a wonderful place for a family holiday.
