2006 Tomero Malbec Gran Reserva
2006 Tomero Malbec Gran Reserva
Deep red with violet hues. Complex aromas of balsamic notes, red fruits, and spices. Its structure is excellent, full-bodied tannins leaving a firm sensation in the mouth. Nice and lasting end.

COMMENTARY: Well, who would have “thunk” it? Argentine Malbec north of $75? This wine is impressive and gives our own Napa Cabernet Sauvignons a run for the money at this price point. The 2015 Tomero Gran Reserva is powerful yet reserved and well behaved. This Malbec is a superb wine amongst the ultra-premiums in the wine world. TASTING NOTES: This wine packs bold black fruit and sweet oak in its aroma and flavors. Its length, richness, and palate balance makes it sure pairing candidate with a nicely grilled ribeye. Full and structured with dark-chocolate, dried-fruit and citrus-rind character. A medium to full body, showing chewy yet polished tannins and a pretty finish.
Tomero wines are traditional Argentine varietals with classic varietal character that is always true to the terroir. Most Tomero wines are sourced from high-elevation vineyards in Valle de Uco, a sub-appellation of Mendoza nestled against the base of the Andes.
The Valle de Uco is located 130km southeast from the city of Mendoza. Antonio Pulenta came upon these lands more than 40 years ago and began the planting of vineyards in what today is known as Finca los Alamos. It is a vineyard of inestimable value due to its location, age and the grape quality. It is comprised of?400 hectares of trellised vines with bilateral spurred cordon, that produce varieties?such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Viognier, and originate the Tomero Wines.
