2013 Catena Malbec
2013 Catena Malbec Cherry, blackberry, spice on nose, blackberry, strawberry, mocha, oak, leather, very slight spice, smooth drink heavy tannins. Catena Zapata, Argentina’s most awarded winery, was founded in 1902 by Nicola Catena, an Italian immigrant. The family winery is known for its pioneering role in resurrecting Malbec and discovering extreme high-altitude terroirs in the Andean foothills of Mendoza.
The family’s Adrianna Vineyard is the first vineyard in South America to receive 100 points from Robert Parker Wine Advocate along with perfect scores from James Suckling and Falstaff. Catena Zapata was named the No. 1 World’s Most Admired Wine Brand of 2020 by Drinks International magazine.
The Catena wines are a blend of single varietal lots from the Catena family’s vineyards. Each vineyard is divided into lots that are harvested separately, and specially prepared to be part of the final blend of each Catena wine: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Chardonnay. By blending components from different terroirs and altitudes, we aim to create the most balanced and expressive wine. Although we have found that most of the Catena wines are consumed shortly after release, we have been pleased to see that they age beautifully for ten to twenty years.
