Caiarossa
This wine blew me away, compare to wines that are double to triple the price. The great wine of Tuscany are absolutely glorious in 2015 and this is one of the finest at the price out there. The vintage got huge scores 97pts by Parker’s WA and 97pts by the Wine Spectator. The wine is the 2015 Caiarossa Pergolaia and what a stunner it is for under thirty a bottle. The Winery is owned by the Albada family who also own two prestigious Grands Crus Classés in Margaux, Château Giscours and Château Du Tertre. According to the winemaker, Lorenzo Pasquini, “the 2015 vintage will be remembered as a very elegant and rich vintage, with a nice freshness and a wonderful depth of tannins”. Lorenzo has made wines in Bordeaux as well as Cheval des Andes, Cheval Blanc’s property in Argentina. The Val di Cecina (the Cecina river valley), the town of Riparbella to be precise, is the place where Caiarossa is cradled: it rises up on a hill halfway between the ancient city of Volterra and Pisa. On the Tuscan coast and just miles from Bolgehri, the region has many of the characteristics of Bolgheri and you can taste it in the wines. Reminds of the wines from Ornellaia. The wine killed it in 2015 getting 93pts by Wine Spectator and at its price point from this area offers incredible quality at an affordable price. This Caiarossa is a definite buy. The wine is a rich powerful gorgeous big red that rivals the great Super Tuscans and will be loved by Napa and Bordeaux admirers. I truly loved this wine. I strongly recommend.
