2015 Chateau Paveil De Luze 750ML
2015 Chateau Paveil De Luze 750ML The 2015 Château Paveil de Luze is not only a sleeper of the great 2015 Bordeaux vintage, it is potentially the finest wine produced at this property in more than a half a century. The 2015 Château Paveil de Luze is a deeply colored wine with impressive fruit, texture, and body. Ripe and generous, it displays plenty of blackberry and plum flavors infused with tobacco and Margaux’s pleasant distinctive earthiness. Backed by ripe substantial tannins, the 2015 Château Paveil de Luze is a wine to lay down in classic Margaux fashion as such patience yields big dividends. The 2015 Paveil de Luze should be at its best from 2022-2032.
I tasted this wine on my first visit to Bordeaux in 1992 when I tasted with Baron De Luze and have loved the wine ever since. One of my all-time, go to values from Margaux.
The 2015 Château Paveil de Luze is not only a sleeper of the great 2015 Bordeaux vintage, it is potentially the finest wine produced at this property in more than a half a century. 2015 is one of the greatest vintages ever from Bordeaux rivalling the likes of 2010, 2005, 2000, 1982, 1961 and 1945 as the best in the last hundred years. Chateau Paveil de Luze is one of the oldest properties in the Medoc. There have been six generations of owners since the 19th century. Its history presents a fascinating family saga, whose various characters have shown great passion for the property and have all left their mark. Paveil’s vineyard dates from the 17th century and belonged to the Lords of Bretonneau until the end of the 18th century. During the reign of Louis XV, one of the family married a daughter of the Chevalier de Rauzan. In 1862, Baron Alfred de Luze bought the magnificent 120 hectare estate and established an international reputation for its wines, particularly in the United States where his brother, Louis-Philippe, was responsible for their distribution. The Siberian winter of 1956 destroyed a substantial part of the vineyard, but in 1960 Baron Geoffroy de Luze decided to restore the property to its former glory. The gradual rejuvenation process required method and patience, with a replanting of the vines, and a modern winery. Today run by Baron Frederic De Luze who I tasted with all those many years ago has gone from strengths to strengths
The wine is made by Stephane Derenencourt who has made many 100pt Parker Bordeaux’s. The Wine Spectator calls him, “The world’s hottest winemaker.”
At 29.99 this an absolute steal. Cabernet based from a great vintage, in its drinking window made by a great winemaker. I have been in this business for many years and this is truly a great buy from Bordeaux.
