2015 Shelter The Butcher Cabernet
2015 Shelter The Butcher Cabernet Deep, dark and dense, with layers of black fruit, cassis, blackberry, tinged with hints of earth, graphite, mocha and vanilla – all wrapped in ample but ripe tannins that provide the structure needed to support the incredible fruit and luxury finish.
The wine is a powerhouse with layers of black fruit and a hint of cedar and mocha on the finish. Seven years of bottle age has smoothed out the edges; the wine is drinking beautifully right now.
This is an insane opportunity on pinnacle quality at a tremendous price. The wine is brought to us by David Stevens. David hails from North Dakota, tired of the cold winters he found himself in Napa, working at one of the most esteemed restaurants in the valley, Tre Vigne. He worked the bar their exposing his palate to some of the best wines coming out of Napa. This lead him to become the wine buyer, tracking and securing the absolute best. This lead him to found one of the finest boutique stores in Napa that focuses on only the hardest to insider Napa Cabs. All of this has led him to forge strong relationships with the finest vintners in Napa, growers, managers and winemakers. He would hear about small batches of some of the finest juice in Napa, made by the greatest winemakers that were available. Often when a final blend is put together, Some barrels are left out. Not because of the quality of the wine but because enough was required based on the blend that was chosen.
This led David with a benefactor and a friend of mine to start Shelter and these wines represent some of the finest quality, I am talking the absolute best, to be had at spectacular prices. Today we have the 2015 Shelter The Butcher Cabernet, made by one of the Superstars of Napa Cab, Bob Foley. Bob made Pride the world class producer it is today. He also makes his own Robert Foley Wines as well as Hourglass, Paloma and Switchback Ridge. 2015 is a great vintage, that received 97pts by Parker’s WA. 2015 is a very showy, sexy vintage, making this wine wonderfully accessible now with seven years in the bottle and will also cellar superbly for another decade. This wine is killer at $49.99 and should be well over $100 per bottle. This is as good as Napa Cab gets at a great price. Bouquet to palate to finish, this wine will astound you.
