The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is firmly rooted in the earth, as black cherry and tea leaves give way to moist soil tones, smoky minerals, and a hint of animal musk. On the palate, fleshy textures usher in polished, ripe black fruits and offsetting savory herbs, with minerals and round tannins slowly saturating the senses. The finish is long and zesty, with citrus-infused tannins and minerals tugging at the cheeks, as dried red fruits and undeniably pretty floral tones slowly fade. This is wonderfully balanced and geared up for mid-term evolution in the cellar. Frankly, I think of it like a swiss army knife of Brunello, pleasing at first pour, but with the stuffing to go ten to fifteen years. Well done. Vinous
Tenuta di Sesta’s 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is a velvety and sultry wine that boasts classic lines and generous fruit aromas. Released five years after the harvest, this expression of Sangiovese shows aged and open-knit characteristics with dried currant, forest floor, earth and plenty of blue flower. The wine yields softly integrated tannins with a pretty, mid-weight approach to the finish. You might try a traditional Tuscan dish of pappardelle alla lepre for this one. WA
Brunello make up some of the most sought after and collected wines in the world. This is the ‘Super Star Appellation’ of Tuscany. Brunello makes up one of the five wine appellations of Europe that’s starts with the letter ‘B’. The others are Bordeaux; Burgundy, Barolo and Barbaresco and the wines they make are the finest wines made in Europe today. Brunello are famous for their power and finesse. For their richness and opulence they show a superb elegance and depth. Lovers of big reds are huge fans of Brunello and no cellar is complete without Brunello representation. The grape is a strain of Sangiovese called Sangiovese Grosso that is a smaller grape with a thicker skin which tends to make a wine that has more concentration and more structure allowing to age better.
