2016 Adamvs Cabernet Sauvignon
2016 Adamvs Cabernet Sauvignon Deeply aromatic with notes of cherries, plums, cassis, crushed rocks, menthol and tobacco, the wine exhibits both graceful finesse and power. On the palate, the Adamvs has fleshiness, purity and vibrancy that seamlessly soften into silky and supple tannins.
About the producer
Denise and Stephen Adams discovered the idyllic ADAMVS property in 2008. In its mosaic of five vineyard sites, iron-rich red soils, ideal elevation and diversity of vineyard exposures, they saw the perfect convergence of geology and geography. To realize the estate’s promise, and their goal of establishing a new benchmark for excellence on Howell Mountain, they gathered together a team that includes viticulturist Michael Wolf consulting winemaker Philippe Melka and winemaker Jason Valenti.
The house is called Adamvs. If there ever was a winery that is set up to make the world’s greatest Cabernet’s, this is it. The winery is a state of the art wine making and vineyard management masterpiece. The tasting room is architectural incredible, glass walls with oak tree rings surrounding it allowing light to come through. The roof is open with wooden beams again allowing light to come through. If it rains there is a sliding glass roof at the push of a button and the whole room is designed to allow light to hit your glass and the wine you are tasting from different angles to accentuate the whole experience. As a sensory person, an incredible experience.
The Adamvs Winery was started by Steve Adams, an industrialist who lives up in Kent CT. Mr Adams love of wine started in Bordeaux where he hired the great Michel Rolland to make wine and purchased Chateau Fonplegade in St Emilion. The Chateau makes three wines that are spectacular and we have supported. The Adams residence in CT and our support of his Bordeaux property are the only reason we have access to Adamvs. Adamvs was purchased years later and sits way up on Howell Mountain making up some of the finest terroir in Napa with illustrious neighbors all around. You have Dunn Howell Mountain Cab vineyards behind the property and O’Shaugnessy Howell Mountain Cab vineyard just below. We toured the vineyards in an antique 1967 Range Rover again a great touch.
The wines are made by I can tell you the King of Napa today, Philippe Melka (Haut Brion, Petrus, Lail, Vineyard 29). His deft touch I experienced all over the Napa and the man is definitely the hottest, most in demand winemaker in the valley. Vineyard manager is the legendary Michael Wolf (Scarecrow, Bond, Beckstoffer) and full time Winemaker is Jason Velenti (Paul Hobbs and Kosta Browne). Three Cabernet are made at Adamvs totaling about 500 cases. Today I have a small allocation of the 2016 Adamvs Terres to strongly recommend. These are monumental wines from a classic vintage. This is hard core Howell Mountain Cabernet made for the cellar and built to age with the finest wines in the world. Extremely collectible, a masterpiece as good as red wines gets.
