2016 Chateau Ferrande Graves Rouge 1.5L
2016 Chateau Ferrande Graves Rouge 1.5L is a distinguished red. Its deep red color hides aromas of dark fruit, liquorice, nuts, and a hint of cocoa. Initial elegance gives way to a full body, with soft tannins and notes of ripe fruit. The finish is lively with mentholated notes.
Though Graves produces both red and white wines, it is mostly known for its elegant Cabernet Sauvignon-based blends, which are typically redolent of dark cherries with savory spice, chocolate and a distinctive minerality. Wines here tend to be lighter in body and mature more quickly than those from the Haut-Médoc, yet still have fantastic aging potential. Located on Bordeaux’s left bank, Graves is known for its gravel soils, which retain the sun’s heat and help ripen grapes. In 1987, Pessac-Leognan was separated out from the wider Graves appellation, taking with it the all of the region’s Classed Growths.
Located in the village of Castres-sur-Gironde, Château Ferrande cultivates the art of distinction. The château’s exceptional terroir sets it apart in the Graves, and its unique wines offer a remarkably distinguished expression of the appellation. Château Ferrande’s graceful silhouette stands at the end of a long cedar-lined pathway, at the entry to the village of Castres-sur-Gironde. Nestled in the heart of gardens containing rare plants, linden trees and horse chestnuts, Château Ferrande’s elegant nineteenth century manor house stands out for its superb façade. A symphony of stone and light gives the edifice the appearance of a jewel, encased in shimmering green. Once home to an important smithy, Ferrande was a compulsory stop for travelers on the road from Bordeaux to Toulouse. The erstwhile blacksmith’s legacy endures not only in the château’s name (fer / Ferrande), but also in the passion for hand-crafted excellence that continues to inspire today’s occupants.
