2016 Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Exceptionnelle – Deep garnet color. Notes of red cherry, plum and blueberry with a hint of violet and dried roses. Long, soft, well-rounded finish. The key words are length and elegance. With age, the color and aromas are changing. Wine is an evolving and living product. If you enjoy old vintages, this wine will be perfect for you.

95 James Suckling: A complex and surprisingly youthful Chateauneuf with savory, minty and peppery notes, as well as damson plums. Impressive tannin structure within the rich body, the lively acidity giving the long, focused finish a lot of drive. Excellent aging potential. Drink or hold.
93 Wine Spectator: Offers a forward display of enticing raspberry and boysenberry confiture notes laced with warm anise, black tea and incense. Features a late echo of warm fruitcake. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2034.
The domaine du Vieux Lazaret, coming from my father’s side, is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It’s one of the main domaine of the appellation. You can find the 3 typical terroirs. There are the urgoniens, the rolled pebbles and the sandy soils. The 13 grape varieties are cultivated on our land with majority of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. A 13 hectares domaine, at the foot of the Mont Ventoux is historically attached to the Domaine du Vieux Lazaret.
The Name Vieux Lazaret Former hospital used to quarantine and treat sick people during the major epidemics of the 17th and 18th centuries. It was run by Vincentian monks. After the last plague episode in the 1830’s, which killed 1/3 of the population of the village, the monks, who had become too few in number, joined a monastery, leaving the Lazaret. Jean Quiot, in the 1850’s becomes the owner and turns it into an agricultural farm. Great wine to buy
