2016 Domaine Marchand Freres Grand Cru Charmes Chambertin
2016 Domaine Marchand Freres Grand Cru Charmes Chambertin An inventory error has allowed me to bring you an amazing offer. Prices of Burgundy just keeps going up and up. Todays wine from the all-time great 2016 red Burgundy vintage, from the great Domain of Marchand, from one of the most heralded vineyard for Pinot Noir in the world, the great Grand Cru vineyard of Charmes Chambertin that can be had for under $200 a bottle is unheard of. This is an absolute steal!!!! I could not find anything online of this quality for under $400 a bottle
The greatest red wine on the planet is Grand Cru Red Burgundy. These tiny plots of land make the finest, most collected and most expensive wine on the planet. The greatest wine experiences I have ever had are Grand Cru red Burgundy. The ultimate sensory experience, if you want the best, these are the best. You must have these wines in your cellar.
We are looking at the 2016 vintage and it’s a winner, this is a key vintage to purchase. I quote Vinous “Burgundy’s Côte d’Or has produced an outstanding 2016 vintage, studded with hauntingly beautiful reds.” Parker and Wine Spectator gave the vintage 97pts. This is buy vintage, where wines will be spectacular and will increase in value over time.
Domaine Marchand is my favorite producer in the Cote de Nuit who’s wine don’t cost over a $1000 a bottle. They get huge press by the Wine Spectator and all the leading French wine publication like Guide Hachette des Vins, Gault & Millau, Dussert Gerber, Gilbert & Gaillard and in the Revue des Vins de France. I have offered their wines for ten vintages now. I am very lucky to have built up a relationship with bothers Jen Philippe and Denis and see them every year either in Burgundy or NYC.
One of my dear friends who recently passed bought wine from Burgundy for over thirty years and introduced me to key producers like Marchand. Their total production is just under a thousand cases per year.
Marchand Freres is the quintessential Burgundy domain: small production, high quality. The estate has seen seven generations of continuous family winemakers. Originally founded in Morey-St. Denis, it was in 1983, that the domain bought a winemaker’s house in the very center of Gevrey Chambertin, ostensibly for the beautiful working cellars underneath.
Their wines are only sold in the finest restaurants and some key wine merchants around the world. We are extremely lucky to be able to offer and they are some of the greatest hard core red Burg I have ever tasted.
I have tiny amounts to offer of the 2016 Domaine Marchand Freres Charmes Chambertin. There are holy grail type wines. Only 60 cases of the Charmes were made. These are true treasures that are at the pinnacle of complexity, layering and length. Enjoy
The greatest wines I have ever experienced are great Grand Cru red Burgs, almost a religious experiences, titillating the senses like no other wine. This is one of those wines. I can tell you is liquid gold that reaches heights that only the great Chambertins can reach. Only 60 cases of the wine are made and it goes to a select few that have a personal relationship with the Marchand’s, the finest restaurants in the world and a few of the finest purveyors. This is the top of the mountain! Marchand owns just 0.14 ha in Charmes with vines that are 65 plus years of age. Only ten cases being imported into the US. A gorgeous nose of black cherry, blackberry, violets, rowan berry and licorice leads to a deeply black-fruited, expansive, satin-textured palate with undertones of bitter black chocolate, bitter-sweet roasted nuts, chalk, and iodine. Shows amazing density, complexity and length. The oak is discreet at first, building in intensity to a long, spicy finish. There’s drive and energy, ending in an ethereal aftertaste. Enjoy through 2045.
