The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is yet another stunning example. Depths of mineral-encased black cherries sage allspice licorice tobacco and crushed violets lift up from the glass. The 2016 vintage for Brunello is one of the greatest ever. This is a definite buy vintage, a cornerstone in your cellar and an absolute must if you like the best. The wines of Il Poggione are true icons of Brunello Di Montalcino, one of the great red wine regions there is. The winery is owned by the Marchesi family back to 1980 and is a founding member of the Brunello Consortium. Today father and son Fabrizio and Alessandro Bindocci run Il Poggione and Fabrizio is also the president of the Brunello di Montalcino Consorzio. Their wines are as good as it gets from Brunello. Their Brunello was #4 on the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 .Their wines are famous for their elegance and finesse and are always the class of any vintage.

The 2016’s are a must! Galloni comments; “I frankly cannot remember the last time I tasted young wines from Montalcino that possessed such symmetry from start to finish.” While the wines are beautiful young, they were built for the cellar and I would definitely lay some down.
