2016 Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja Red Our finest Rioja Alta vineyards are destined for the production of Imperial Gran Reserva. Imperial Gran Reserva is an iconic Rioja and Spanish wine. It is only made when harvests are exceptional. This wine is designed to last and improve over time.

Our best vineyards in Rioja Alta are set aside for the production of Imperial Gran Reserva. In 2016 we selected the small plots Remedio and Encinas, located in Villalba between 550 and 650 m of altitude, very close to the Sierra de Toloño and with a climate of Atlantic and continental influence. These plots represent a total of 12- hectare among the 42 that CVNE owns in this town. CVNE is one of the most important wine producers of Spain, on account of its illustrious history, and its omnipresence in the contemporary Spanish wine scene. Founded by the Real de Asua brothers in 1879, it remains family-owned and family-run, with the latest generation committed more than ever to making great wine in meaningful quantities. The 3 company wineries perfectly symbolise the 3 principles that have always caracterised the CVNE philosophy : the respect of heritage evident at the historic Haro bodegas; the embrace of new technology and innovation in the James Bond-inspired Viña Real facility; and the valorisation of terroir that is Contino, Rioja’s most magical vineyard site transformed into truly magical wines.
