Red Wine from Piedmont, Italy
2021 is an all-time great vintage for Italian Wines and Piedmont is no exception. The 2021 vintage for Piedmont scored extremely well for the vintage: 98pts Wine Spectator, 5/5 stars by Decanter and 97pts by Parker’s WA . This is a classic vintage—offering elegance, structure, and freshness that speaks to the heart of what makes Nebbiolo so special. With just 4 quality hectares, located in some of the most prestigious Barolo crus in Serralunga d’Alba. The wines of the Luigi Baudana collection are an expression of powerful, genuine and true-to-terroir wines, expressing the best of the Nebbiolo grape. The Baudana family is etched into the fabric of Serralunga. The hamlet where this winer is located is named Baudana. Today and for the last 30 years Luigi and Fiorina have managed the vineyards that their family have done for generation. The wines they make are a labor love, making tiny amounts of wine under their home, this is about passion, totally hands on and the results are some of the finest Barolo made today. Sadly, very few of these family operations are left, adding a passion, a sense of place, art to the wines and unique signature to the wines created. I have been able to secure a tiny allocation of the superb 2021 Luigi Baudana Barolo Cerretta. Crafted from two specific sites on the east slope on the hill of Serralunga, Cerretta is a powerful Barolo, famous for its age worthiness. The wine has received excellent press, 95pts or more by the important wine critics, and is the most classically styled Barolo made by Baudana, aged in large Slavonian oak barrels. The wine has superb depth and complexity, kissed by oak and not dominated by it, allowing the great Nebbiolo grape and the qualities of Serralunga to shine. The wine combines power, freshness and depth of fruit resulting in a spectacular Barolo. This is Barolo at its finest. Other Barolo that got 97pts by the Wine Spectator all sell for north of $200 a bottle.
