Aromatics of yellow fruits and acacia blossom. On the palate it’s smooth and concentrated with dried currants, dried fruit and honey.
Sauvignon Blanc – Semillon is a classic white wine blend. It is most widely produced in France, most notably Bordeaux’s Graves district, where both Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are well-established varieties. Within the Graves lies the world’s most prestigious sweet wine appellation, Sauternes.
Dessert wines are made from overripe grapes that are particularly sweet and aromatic. Grapes are often dehydrated by ‘noble rot’, or botrytis, which lends the wine a honey or medicine flavor. You can discern notes of peach, apricot, citrus and honey in sweet dessert wines. ‘Noble rot’ dessert wines also have hints of medicine, fresh acidity and intensive, full-bodied sweetness.
The general rule for pairing a dessert with wine is that the wine should be a little sweeter than the food. Dessert wines go best with fresh berry, fruit and cream desserts.Try dessert wines with cream pudding, white chocolate mousse, Crêpes Suzette, macarons or blue cheese.
Chateau Roumieu is a family-owned property passed down from generation to generation since the 18th century. The name “Roumieu” refers to an important stage along the ancient pilgrimage route of “Saint-Jacques de Compostelle”, or St. James’ Way, back in medieval times – when “Roumieu” was used by the Moors to describe the Christians. A scallop shell, adopted as the Chateau’s emblem, features on the label, as “Saint-Jacques” is the French word for scallop. The Château is located on the calcareous-clay plateau of Haut-Barsac, on the same terroir as the most prestigious Cru wines of Sauternes, with Climens (1st cru) and Doisy-Védrines (2nd cru) both adjoining the property. Over the years, the Craveia-Goyaud family has committed to protect the unique character of the terroir.
