2017 Domaine Duclaux Chateauneuf-du-Pape
2017 Domaine Duclaux Chateauneuf-du-Pape Full-bodied but freshly composed blend of eight red and white grape varieties is just starting to show glimpses of maturity. Red-cherry and dried-strawberry notes are cutting and fresh on the palate but edged by hints of leather, crushed earth, camphor and anise. Spry and softly tannic, the wine is at peak now but should hold well through 2030, Delicious with Red meat, grilled dishes and rich cheeses
Chateauneuf-du-Pape is one of the most renowned appellations of the southern part in the Rhône Valley, and its vineyards are located around Châteauneuf-du-Pape and in neighboring villages,Bédarrides, Courthézon and Sorgues, between Avignon and Orange. They cover slightly more than 3,200 hectares or 7,900 acres and produce over 110,000 hectolitres of wine a year
The Duclaux family had wine in their blood. Louis Duclaux was the Mayor of Châteauneuf du Pape in 1627 and the Duclaux were founder members of the Appellation Association. The rules they helped draw up to govern production in Châteauneuf were to become the blueprint for the Appellation Controlee system we have today. When the last of the Duclaux died in 1987, Domaine Duclaux passed into the hands of friends – the Quiot Family who have farmed the Rhone for generations and own Domaine du Vieux Lazaret at Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Château du Trignon at Gigondas.
