2017 Marques de Murrieta ‘Finca Ygay’ Reserva Rioja
2017 Marques de Murrieta ‘Finca Ygay’ Reserva Rioja A great classic, with a unique Rioja character, bursting with chewy red fruits, counterpointed by minerality. Reconciling power and finesse, pleasure and style. Warm and intense. Benchmark for wines of style, high-end brands. Leaves a vibrant memory. 94pts Decanter
Incredible depth and intensity on the nose with chocolate, walnut, blackberry and wet-earth aromas. Some iodine, too. All this follows through to a full body with very silky tannins that give the wine depth and length. It’s really framed beautifully. Reserved and tight at the finish. A terrific wine for the cellar. Give this three to five years to open. 96pts SucklingConsistently one of the great values in the red wine Universe, Marques de Murrieta ‘Finca Ygay’ Reserva Rioja has shined and outdone itself in the strong 2017 vintage. 96pts Suckling, under thirty, time in the bottle, its time to pull the cork. Marques de Murrieta is named after Luciano de Murrieta, one of the founding fathers of modern Rioja winemaking, who established the estate in 1852. The winery is settled near the southern tip of the Rioja Alta in the middle of the beautiful Ygay Estate, a unique 300 hectare vineyard that guarantees complete control over the grape source of the wines and is the key to the quality and style of Marques de Murrieta. Their wine has scored 100pts by Parker. I absolutely loved this wine combining all the tradition of Rioja with the latest modern ways of making wine and managing their vineyards. The best of both worlds. Nothing is spared when it comes to quality. The wine is mainly Tempranillo, superbly round and rich, the perfect amount of oak and acidity. Time in the bottle has given the wine superb length and suppleness. I have served it on different occasions and bottles fly, great drinkability.
