Wine Maker Notes: Ruby red with hues of violet. The nose is elegant and intense, with notes of fresh mature red fruit, such as cherry and currant. The palate is harmonious, with good structure and roundness, beautiful savory finish.  Medium bodied and robust with rich, ripe fruit on the nose and an elegant palate. 2017

Pairs well with pasta with tomato, pizza, Livorno style fish, and white meat.

James Suckling: A ton of bright, primary fruit makes an entrance, characterized by raspberries and dark cherries. Medium-bodied with very little tannin, but the driven acidity makes this immediately drinkable and surely excellent with food. Drink now.
Wine Advocate: The Michele Chiarlo 2017 Barbera d’Asti le Orme (packaged in a screw cap bottle) is a light and informal expression to order at the local trattoria or pizzeria. The wine is tight and lean, with a pretty bouquet of wild cherry, dried blackberry and sweet almond. The wine is mild in terms of extraction and subdued in terms of the grape’s naturally high acidity. These qualities make it so food friendly.
Wine Enthusiast: This juicy red opens with aromas of ripe dark-skinned berry, star anise and a whiff of forest floor. Rounded, chewy and fresh, the savory palate doles out mature Marasca cherry, cranberry, licorice and a hint of truffle alongside smooth tannins. Enjoy through 2022.
Michele Chiarlo sources grapes from strictly selected Barbera vineyards with excellent exposure to produce a superb, balanced wine. The choice vineyards are in the southern area of Asti province, especially the hills around Nizza Monferrato. Temperature controlled maceration and fermentation on the skins yields the dark, rich color that is typical of great Barberas. The wine is aged in large French oak casks for 8 months before release.

The wine producing firm of Michele Chiarlo was founded in 1956 by the sole and present owners, Michele and Giuseppina Chiarlo. Son of over seven generations of esteemed wine growers, Mr. Chiarlo is today one of the most respected producers of the fine wines of Piedmont and a leading figure in its viticultural industry.
