2017 Reyneke Chenin Blanc There’s a lovely waxiness to the nose here, with notes of lemon oil, straw, yellow melon and a touch of lemon verbena. It smells like the mountains, with wild fynbos and Alpine herbs atop the fruit tones. The palate is light in weight and well balanced, with a prickly sensation that results in a clean, medium-length finish, though the acid is not markedly pronounced.

Keep your eyes open for the underrated wines of Verdicchio di Matelica or Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi.
