2017 Tenuta di Arceno Chianti Classico Riserva
2017 Tenuta di Arceno Chianti Classico Riserva It should turn out to be a beauty; dark cherries, black olives and blackberry tart intermingle with vanilla and spices. Full-bodied with a lovely, velvety mouthfeel and loads of layers of dark fruit. Suckling
2016 was an expressive and elegant vintage. There was ample summer sunshine and just enough rain in early September to hold off harvest, giving the fruit more precious time on the vine. Warm days and cool nights produced wines with ripe fruit flavors, deep color, vibrant acidity and very precise aromatics. Floral tones of violets and lavender dominate the aromas. Other aromas include blueberries on the vine, vanilla bean and honey. The palate is framed by bright acids with a dense layered center. Flavors of tart cherries give way to a lasting cedar and orange peel finish. Winemaker.
It comes from the great 2017 vintage in Tuscany. This is a classic vintage in Tuscany. Parker’s Wine Advocate gave the vintage 97pts. Galloni hails 2017 Chianti Classico as a modern day benchmark.
The wine has a superb price and a huge score. Suckling gave the wine a huge 94pts giving the wine a great write-up, see below.
Winemaker is tremendous! In honor of its history, the name Arceno comes from the Etruscan word Archè, which means “point of origin”. The estate is located between two rivers: the Ambra, which flows to Florence, and the Ombrone, which flows to the Mediterranean. The Del Taja family purchased the land in 1504 and added architectural improvements. Then, in 1829 the estate was sold to the Piccolominis, one of the most illustrious families of Siena; who created the splendid outdoor structures that still stand today. Today the Winery is owned by the Jackson Family who purchased it in 1994 and is part of their international portfolio. Wines are made by Pierre Seillan who has made wine all over the world. His breakout was the 100pt Parker Bordeaux Blends he made at Verite in California. The wine is drinking gloriously and will age superbly in your cellar. The wine is full-bodied, wonderfully supple with integrated tannins, glorious opulent berry fruit and at our price an absolute steal for what’s in the bottle. Osso Buco anyone??
