Born of an obsession with Santa Barbara County terroir, Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton formed Brewer – Clifton in the early 1990’s. They both had significant sales and production experience with a multitude of Santa Barbara County wineries, and always felt compelled to push the limits of the fruit from the area further than our previous employers had set forth to do. We set out to put the essence of the best vineyards in the area into a bottle.
Brewer-Clifton
Over 20 years ago two young aspiring winemakers met, each bringing a vision and a drive to produce world-class wine. Focusing on the Burgundian roots of pinot noir and chardonnay, they paid homage to France. They were keen on making their own footprint and forging a style that was uniquely Californian. The wines embrace the power, pedigree and richness of the Sta. Rita Hills, that has become the trademark of Brewer–Clifton.
We are committed to a finite stretch of land within the Sta. Rita Hills appellation even before we mapped and defined it some twenty years ago. From our first working moments here in the early 1990’s, we have been lured and seduced by this magnificent wine growing area. The pure crystalline sand soils under our feet and the salty air blowing continuously from the rugged nearby sea set an immediate hook from which we could never escape.
We remain steadfastly loyal to the stewardship of this land through our estate holdings, and are humbled to travel the globe sharing our story with colleagues, collectors and wine enthusiasts such as yourself. We feel more motivated than ever before in the refinement of our craft and look forward to sharing our efforts with you for many decades to come.
