This wine has been instrumental in creating the signature style of all Napa Cabs from the Valley. Spectacular layer upon layers flavor that cascade across the palate. The classic Rutherford dust that has become Rutherford’s calling card. The success of the Wagner family in California wine has very few equals. Starting with farmer Charlie Wagner farming wheat and fruit in the 1940’s in Napa to Andre Tchelistcheff telling Charlie that the grapes he grew could make great wine. This led to the establishment of Caymus in 1972 with Charlie replanting his farm in Rutherford to Cabernet. Today the Wagner family have built a family wine empire with the vaunted Special Selection at its pinnacle sourced from the farm Charlie planted to Cabernet back in the day. Our price is excellent
Caymus Vineyards was established in 1971 and produced their first vintage was 1972 which consisted of a meager 240 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. Despite being world famous for their iconic “Special Selections” and Napa Cabernets, Caymus remains a family-owned and -operated business to this day. Robert Parker is a fan, as he writes in Wine Advocate: “Few wineries in the world can boast such an enviable record of consistent excellence as that of Caymus.”
Each year, Caymus sets aside the best barrels of our Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley to produce Special Selection. Distinguished by extremely fine, velvety tannins and enjoyable upon release or with aging. A wine of structure with intense concentration of supple flavors and dark fruits.
