2018 Elouan Pinot Noir
2018 Elouan Pinot Noir
Dark ruby red in color, this wine opens up with aromas of dark cherry, persimmon, dark chocolate, and sweet pipe tobacco. The palate is rich, robust, and well-balanced, with solid structure and intense flavors of bing cherry, cocoa, candied cranberry, and boysenberry. Superb depth and concentration complement rich tannins and lead into a smooth medium finish.
Salmon with arugula, feta, and quinoa, flank steak with chimichurri, or heavy ricotta and ravioli with a light red sauce.
For Elouan, the fruit is brought together from three distinct terrains along Oregon’s premiere Western vineyards which harmonize beautifully when blended as one. The diversity of these cool climate areas combined with an elongated growing season creates wines with vibrant fruit flavors, intensity and richness with refreshing acidity.
While the Willamette Valley and Pinot Noir are a like a fairy tale match made in heaven, most of Oregon is in fact, a glorious source of Pinot noir. Claiming over half of its total area under vine, Pinot noir also thrives in Southern Oregon’s Umpqua and Rogue Valleys where sedimentary and volcanic soils dominate hillside vineyards and cool temperatures create the perfect environment for Pinot noir. Also, Oregon’s Columbia Gorge is becoming increasingly popular for Pinot noir production. What sets Oregon Pinot noir apart from the Pinot of other regions, both New and Old World, is its innate combination of grace with both power and restraint.
Oregon – in the Pacific Northwest of the USA – is one of the world’s youngest and most promising wine regions. The state first earned a place on the international wine map in the late 1960s and has secured its position steadily ever since.
In the early 21st Century, Oregon is regarded as a world-class wine region, particularly for its Pinot Noir. The classic Oregon Pinot has deep red cherry color. It gives aromas of black cherries, stewed strawberries and an earthy edge.
