2018 Laetitia Pinot Noir Limite
2018 Laetitia Pinot Noir Limite, from Arroyo Grande Valley, Central Coast, California
Winemaker Notes; With an initial spiced marionberry quality, the wine unwinds slowly into notes of cedar plank and delicate rose petal, framed by fine, dusty tannins. The palate is expressive with tangy notes of sarsaparilla, red currant, and warm baking spice.
Pinot Noir is the dominant red wine grape of Burgundy, now adopted (and extensively studied) in wine regions all over the world. The variety’s elusive charm has carried it to all manner of vineyards.
These extend from western Germany (as Spätburgunder) and northern Italy to Chile, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. California, Oregon and New Zealand are arguably the greatest centers for the grape outside its home territory. However great Pinot Noir is made in all of these territories.
Arroyo Grande Valley is the southernmost AVA in California’s San Luis Obispo County, just seven miles (11km) from the northern border of Santa Barbara County (and the Santa Maria Valley AVA). Located in a valley that cuts inland from the town of Arroyo Grande, the AVA experiences persistent fog and cold ocean winds that lower temperatures in the area. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the most important grapes planted here, producing both single-varietal wines and blended sparkling wines.
Since 1982, the Laetitia Vineyard & Winery has produced elegant wines that champion the exceptional character and diversity of the Arroyo Grande Valley AVA. Originally founded by an established French Champagne house, the Laetitia estate carries on in the longstanding traditions of Burgundy and Champagne with a focus on small-lot Pinot Noir and sparkling wines. Valuing legacy, balance, innovation, and sustainable practices from harvest to glass, the Laetitia team works meticulously from vintage to vintage to ensure that every bottle of Laetitia wine is as expressive as the coastal land from which it originates.
