2018 Norton Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon
2018 Norton Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon, Red wine from Napa Valley, United States
With notes of mocha and cassis, this has all of the characteristics that make reds from California, and Cabernet Sauvignon in particular, such a treat. Decant this wine for a great experience.
Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Napa Valley, an hours drive north of San Francisco, California, is the most famous and prestigious wine region anywhere in the New World. Although a number of grape varieties are grown in the valley’s vineyards, the area is particularly known for its Cabernet Sauvignon.
The wines of Norton Ridge are a testament to our relationships with growers and vintners in the Valley and beyond.Norton Ridge wines are produced with a clear goal: to make straight-forward, food-friendly wines. This goal is attained through a process that begins in the vineyard, where high-quality grapes provide a base for the wine. The grapes chosen for these wines are from select vineyard sites in Sonoma and Napa counties. The winemaking style is one of little intervention. No new oak is used (none at all in the Chardonnay and Cabernet) to allow the fruit and varietal characteristics of the wines to shine through. Both the Merlot and Chardonnay are clean, bright wines that pair well with a wide variety of foods.
