2018 Rudd Samantha’s Cabernet
2018 Rudd Samantha’s Cabernet “Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Samantha’s was aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, 68% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it slips slowly out of the glass with captivating scents of black raspberries, Morello cherries, black currant pastilles and rose oil, followed by suggestions of cedar chest, pencil lead and black olives. The full-bodied palate is charged with amazing energy, featuring vivacious red and black berry layers and a firm backbone of grainy tannins, lifted by refreshing acidity and bags of crunchy fruit on the long finish.”
Rudd is one of the producers that made me fall in love with Napa Cab. Leslie Rudd has become one of the leading forces in Napa. Coming from the liquor distribution business, he wanted to further his experience in fine food and wine. He was the owner of fine food mecca Dean and Deluca. He opened PRESS restaurant in St Helena which features the largest list of Napa Valley wines in the world with vintages back to the 1950s. Rudd Winery is one of the leading Cult Cab producers in Napa. Samantha Rudd grew up on Rudd Estate and remembers the lessons instilled by her father through two decades of working side-by-side on the Estate. She also learned on the job from some of the best in the world at Château Margaux and Spottswoode, both female run and owned winery estates. Today we bring you the 2018 Rudd Samantha’s Cabernet a special selection of Rudd Oakville Estate blocks that yield grapes of particular depth and character. This 100% Cabernet bottling is absolutely spectacular, getting a huge 96+pts by Parker’s WA and coming from the excellent 2018 vintage. Quantities are tight! This is Cabernet in all its Napa glory. Definitely collectible and a wine that will reward in the cellar. I am licking my lips as I just opened a bottle and am letting it open up to show itself. Simply top cult Napa Cab!
