2018 Saintsbury Chardonnay
2018 Saintsbury Chardonnay
Zesty notes of lime, kumquats and green pineapple, with powdered lily aromas. On the palate this wine is energetic from the start with tangy citrus, white peach and cloves.
Suggested pairings include braised chicken thighs with Meyer lemons and olives, whole grilled fish, and Cowgirl Creamery Mt. Tam or Cabot Clothbound Cheddar cheeses.
James Suckling (93/100)
Ripe apricot with salted butter and mango on the nose. Smoke and flint, too. It’s full-bodied and wonderfully creamy. Crisp acidity and lingering, cream notes. Drink or hold.
Wine Enthusiast (91/100)
Made in an elegant, austere and refined style, this tastes of apple skin, pear and just a hint of peach. With well-integrated oak providing a foundation, it has a rich underbelly of baking spice.
Known for elegant wines that combine power and finesse, Carneros is set in the rolling hills that straddle the southernmost parts of both Sonoma and Napa counties. The cooling winds from the abutting San Pablo Bay, combined with lots of midday California sunshine, create an ideal environment for producing wines with a perfect balance of crisp acidity and well-ripened fruit.
This cooler pocket of California lends itself to growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Carneros is an important source of sparkling wines made in the style of Champagne as well.
