This cooler pocket of California lends itself to growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Carneros is an important source of sparkling wines made in the style of Champagne as well.
Silverado Vineyards is located on the Silverado Trail in the Stags Leap District AVA of Napa Valley, California. It was established by the Millar family in 1981 and today has almost 160 hectares (400 acres) of vines. Silverado’s key grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, but there are also plantings of various other grape varieties including Merlot and the slightly left-field Sangiovese. The land that is now Silverado Vineyards was purchased by the Millar family in 1970. Initially, the family sold their grapes to other wineries in the region, but realized the potential of the grapes grown on their land and decided to make and bottle their wines under the Silverado label.
