2019 Bodegas Nekeas El Chaparral Old Vines Garnacha
2019 Bodegas Nekeas El Chaparral Old Vines Garnacha “Coming from old vine Garnacha (60- to 130-year-old vines), the 2019 El Chaparral de Vega Sindoa has a Rhône-like perfume of spiced strawberry fruits, peppery herbs, dried earth, and incense. These carry to a juicy, medium-bodied Garnacha with a light, graceful texture, nicely integrated tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. It’s a terrific value that will evolve nicely for 3-5 years.”
Very clear and aromatic with blackberry, strawberry and violet character, following through to the mid-palate with firm yet fine tannins and a vivid finish. This is really well done. Drink or hold.
We love hunting for great bargains. Unfortunately, bargains don’t last long in our world once our customers catch wind of it. I am currently re tasting today’s wine, and in the years I have been in the business, I keep coming back to this and re stocking. We recommend that you stock up on this before it sells out. The wines are from Bodegas Nekeas, and this is their El Chaparral 2019 Old Vine Garnacha, or “Chappy”, as the wine’s devout following refers to it as. Whenever this wine becomes available, it gets snatched up immediately because of its unparalleled quality price ratio. We love these wines, and so does the press. The wine received 93pts from James Suckling, and it comes from old vine Garnacha from the region of Navarra, Spain. The vines range anywhere from 60 to 130 years old and if you love big, rich reds from Spain or the Southern Rhone, back up the truck on this offer. The label is owned by the great Jorge Ordonez, who is the pioneer of introducing the US market to the greatness of Spain, and was instrumental at showing how much consumers can get for their money, with properties like Muga, Sierra Cantabria and Borsao. This is one of the top releases from Spain for under $16 every year, and with the shortage and pricing of European wine in flux, I could not be happier to have this in my holdings. Enjoy.
