2019 Egelhoff Cabernet Code Red
2019 Egelhoff Cabernet Code Red Warm plums, cassis and mulberries with touches of bay leaves and spice cake plus a waft of earth. Medium to full-bodied, plush, generously fruited, harmonious and refreshing, it is simply delicious!
This wine offers up the classic black and red currant scents along with some tobacco leaf and underbrush, a touch of soil undertones and a whiff of chocolate. Medium to full-bodied and fruit-driven, to be enjoyed over the next ten years. This is a great value that drinks way above it pay grade.
Bob Egelhoff makes two insane value reds from Napa. We have the Code Black which is a red blend that many of you are familiar with and love. The other is Egelhoff Code Red 2019, the Code Red which is harder to get is 100% Cabernet and like the Black is one of the all-time great values made in Napa today. Egelfoff is one of the greatest Winemakers in Napa. The list of Wineries he has made wine for is spectacular. He has made wines for Beckstoffer Vineyards, Robert Craig and Merryvale. Today he consults for Pahlmeyer, David Arthur and Axios, some of the finest names in Napa. Today however his main focus and passion today are his own wines. 2019 is a great vintage for Napa. The Wine Spectator has given the vintage 97pts with excellent structure worthy of the cellar. The vintage is a win! Galloni of Vinous comments; “the 2019s I have tasted so far are fabulous. The wines feel like they have a little more energy, power and depth than the 2018s” and 2018 is also a great vintage.
This is a small production wine, only 223 cases which makes it very hard to get. The wine gets the same tender love and care that Egelhoff gives his $100 plus Napa Cabs. The wine is sourced from some of Napa’s finest single vineyards including Mt George (1st planted in the 19th century and today part of Silverado Vineyards), Olive Hill (Owned By BR Cohn) and Blakely Vineyard (used by Bob in his $100 Plus Cabs). The wine is also 100% Napa Cab, most Cabs under $50 are made up with 25% other grapes to soften them up and bring the cost down. This is a great buy, a legendary winemaker, an all-time great value the wine has all the bells and whistles, even better wait till you pop the cork.
