2019 Fillaboa Albarino
2019 Fillaboa Albarino; Rias Baixas,Spain
Winemaker Notes; This wine comes from the historic Finca Fillaboa, a 74-hectare vineyard set on rolling hillsides that adjoin, in its southern part, the Tea and Miño rivers, a natural border with Portugal. The richness of its soils and the Atlantic climate make Fillaboa an exceptional and unique place for the cultivation of the Albariño variety and enriches its wines with great personality. It is a very aromatic wine, with great structure; smooth, soft and delicate on the palate.
V92 Vinous; Light, bright yellow. Highly perfumed, mineral-tinged aromas of tangerine, pear and melon take on a floral overtone as the wine opens up. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering sappy, spice-laced citrus and orchard fruit flavors underscored by a core of chalky minerality. Finishes silky, floral and long, leaving behind resonating mineral and spice notes.
Albarino (Alvarinho) is a green-skinned grape variety native to Galicia on the north Atlantic coast of Spain. It is best known as being the key grape variety in the Rias Baixas DO, where it makes crisp but often well-textured white wines with peach, citrus and mineral characters that pair perfectly with the local seafood.
Rías Baixas is a DO wine zone in the Galicia region of northwestern Spain, located along the Atlantic coastline. Although a comparatively young DO (established in 1988), Rías Baixas has rapidly grown in stature thanks to the efforts of its various enterprising producers, who have adopted modern winemaking techniques to showcase the region’s signature grape variety, Albariño
Fillaboa, meaning “the good daughter” in the Gallego dialect of northwestern Spain, produces some of the rarest and highest quality wine from the D.O. Rías Baixas. Bodegas Fillaboa’s estate is focused exclusively on the cultivation of Albariño, the star white wine of the region, famed for its freshness, complexity and compatibility with local seafood.
