2019 Five Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon
2019 Five Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon When you follow great winemaking families, you discover great winemakers, and nothing is more exciting for us than to see multiple generations passing the torch. Krisi Raymond, a 5th generation member of the legendary Beringer family (established in 1876), is making some of the most delicious, under the radar Napa Cabernet I have tasted in quite some time. She was stomping grapes with her family before she could even walk. This is hardcore, big, rich, full throttle, gorgeously supple Napa Cabernet and if you have been a supporter of our $50-70 Napa offers in the past (Tether, Sheshan, etc.) this is a must buy. The 2019 is one of the great vintages from Napa. Galloni of Vinous comments; “the 2019s I have tasted so far are fabulous. The wines feel like they have a little more energy, power and depth than the 2018s” and the 2018 vintage was a great vintage. 2019 received a huge 96pts by Parker’s Wine Advocate. Krisi Raymond has earned a spot on the hierarchy of Napa’s legendary female winemakers, including Helen Turley, Heidi Barrett, and Helen Keplinger. I highly recommend.
Winery Tasting Notes From the great 2019 Napa vintage that received a great 96pts by Parker’s Wine Advocate. Like a broken record, another small but mighty vintage (Mother Nature again!). The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is structured, bright and fruit forward, with earthy aromas of cassis and dark cherry. Luscious ripe berry juiciness and a hint of anise linger on the finish. Balanced oak, tannins and acidity are achieved once again. After 18 months of aging in 40% new French oak barrels, this wine was bottled in the midst of Harvest 2021 and is tasting amazing right now.
Krisi Raymond represents the fifth generation in her family to grow grapes and make wine in the Napa Valley. Her family roots run deep, dating back to 1876 when her great-great-grandfather Jacob Beringer, together with his brother Frederick, established Beringer Brothers Winery just north of St. Helena. The next generation continued to produce wine through Prohibition for medicinal and sacramental purposes. It was in 1933 with the repeal of Prohibition that Roy Raymond began his career in the wine industry at Beringer Brothers Winery. In 1936 he married Martha Jane Beringer, grand-daughter of Jacob Beringer. Their two sons, Roy Jr. and Walter, continued the family’s winemaking tradition at Beringer Brothers Winery after attending college.
With their share of the proceeds from the sale of Beringer in 1970, the Raymond family purchased 90 acres of prime vineyard land south of St. Helena on Zinfandel Lane and founded Raymond Vineyard & Cellar. They planted a variety of wine grapes on the property and crushed their first vintage in 1974.
In 2001, nearly 30 years later, Krisi Raymond stepped out on her own as a grape grower and winemaker. With just one acre planted to Sauvignon Blanc and a handful of select grape growers
