Lots of plums, cigar wrapper, candied violets, and flowery incense notes emerge from the 2019 Zinfandel Paso Robles. It’s a ripe yet seamless, sexy Zinfandel from Paso Robles that has sweet tannins, a wonderful sense of weightlessness, and outstanding length. 92pts JD
Ridge is synonymous with Red Zinfandel. I can remember tasting my first Ridge Zin Lytton Springs some thirty years ago like it was yesterday, it made huge impact on me then as it does today. Ridge is one of the finest producers of wine in California, a blue chip producer, as good as ever and yes they are inexpensive for what’s in the bottle. From the legendary Cabernet Ridge Montebello to some of the greatest single vineyard Zinfandel based wines like Lytton Springs and Geyserville. Ridge makes some greatest wines ever made in the USA. I tasted the 2019 Ridge ‘Dusi Ranch’ Zinfandel and it’s a stunner under thirty a bottle. This is one of the finest vineyards in Paso Robles for Zinfandel. The Parcel that the wine comes from 98 year old vines planted prior to prohibition. Old vines makes the finest Zins, adding to concentration and opulence and intensity. The vineyard was planted in 1923 and was pucrhsed soon after by Sylvester and Catarina Dusi. They had three sons, two of which went to was and Sylvester and his youngest son Benito who as the time was only eleven years old were left to look after the vineyard. Ridge has a long relationship with Beni and the Dusi ranch back to 1967 when Ridge asked to buy 5 tons of grapes. They have been making the Dusi Ranch Zins ever since and the 2019 is stunning. I strongly recommend and please enjoy!
