2019 Sette Ponti Oreno
2019 Sette Ponti Oreno Wow. Fantastic aromas of blackberries, currants, minerals, violets and graphite. Full bodied with firm, silky tannins that are incredibly polished and intense, yet ever so refined and integrated in the wine. It goes on for minutes. This is one of the best modern-day Oreno’s so far. Best in 2025 and onwards.
Tenuta Sette Ponti lies on historic land in the heart of the Chianti zone at the end of the Via del Monte, known locally as the Via dei Sette Ponti, in a beautiful hidden valley. Named for the seven medieval bridges crossing the Arno River on the road from Arezzo to Florence—one of which, the Ponte Buriano, is perceptible in the right far background of Leonardo DaVinci’s Mona Lisa—the estate has a storied history. But it has been the dedication and savvy of luxury goods entrepreneur Antonio Moretti that has transformed the 750-acre estate into a multifaceted farm property that is today one of Tuscany’s most innovative, quality-driven producers of world-class Super Tuscans. Some successful men are satisfied when they get to the top of one specific field. Others think outside the box, no matter how plush the box. Men like Antonio Moretti, whose achievements comprise cult fashion names: Modi & Moda, Arfango, Bonora, Carshoe, ranging from a line of reasonably priced, top-quality wear, to handmade shoes crafted from ancient leather.
The 2019 Sette Ponti Oreno is one of the finest vintages ever made of this iconic Super Tuscan. Oreno is a huge favorite in the US. It is a marvelously rich, opulent wine with gorgeous concentration, all silk and satin in the mouth with a melt away long finish. The wine has received a huge 99pts by Suckling and is screaming good in 2019. Oreno is the flagship of Tenuta Sette Ponti. Its owner, Antonio Moretti is himself comfortable with greatness; he made his first fortune in the fashion industry, and then came back to his family’s business, wine. He brought the same drive and determination and combined it with his love of wine to become a star in his second chosen field – most entrepreneurs would be more than happy with this level of success in just one endeavor. Antonio put together an absolute dream team to develop the wine and winery. Two of our absolute favorites, Gioia Cresti and Carlo Ferrini were hired to make the wine. They are partners in wine and in life and both are at the top of their game. They have worked on scores of stunning Italian wines, including Petrolo, Casanova di Neri, Mazzei, Brancaia, and Carpineta Fontalpino. For a vineyard manager, he turned to one of the greats, Gilbert Bouvet, who had worked the world over and was one of the best known consulting viticulturists. These three, working towards Antonio’s lofty goal, have reached near perfection with this wine. Moretti believes that his 2019 Oreno is even better than his great 2010.
