2019 Telmo Rodriguez Matallana 750ML  2019 was a very classical vintage with power, concentration and plenty of tannin, and the wine should develop and benefit from extended time in bottle. The wine feels very young and primary, with integrated spices from the élevage in oak, a medium to full-bodied palate, powerful and concentrated but very balanced. Drink: 2024-2034 Delicate aromas, with blackberry fruit and spicy notes from the oak that are enhancing the fruit. Dense but not overpowering in palate, silky, poised, tight but gentle. Toffee and blueberries in aftertaste.

The wine is made by Telmo Rodriguez, one of Europe’s finest winemakers and a legend in Spain. A pioneer and trailblazer focusing on wines of place and showcasing great terroir. Telmo’s wine was the number one wine on James Suckling’s Top 100 Spanish Wines of 2021 and he has made 100pt Parker wine. Telmo studied viticulture and oenology at the University of Bordeaux and was winemaker at his family winery in Rioja, Remelluri, before setting off on his own in the early 1990s to discover new vineyards and regions all around Spain. Today we have his spectacular offering from Ribera del Duero, the 2019 Telmo Rodriguez Matallana with a huge 96+pts by Parker’s WA. Matallana is a blend of nine vineyards in five villages – inspired by the Vega Sicilia wines and the wines of Gérard Chave in Hermitage, where he used different vineyards to blend soil types to make the perfect wine. 2019 is an outstanding vintage for Ribera. This is a hard core big red wine that rivals the finest from Ribera del Duero but is still affordable. If you love Napa; Bordeaux or the great Super Tuscans, this wine will floor you.
