2019 Tenuta Argentiera Bolgheri Superiore “What a beauty and what an incredible leap forward to excellence. The Tenuta Argentiera 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Argentiera shows depth and wide shoulders with soft plushness and impeccable fruit. The full-bodied wine is dialed up on all levels from perfumes, intensity, mouthfeel, texture and freshness. This bottle should hold past the 20-year mark.” 97pts Parker’s WA
“This is so nicely crafted, with tannins that are fine and integrated, creating such a fine, silky texture. It’s medium-bodied with fantastic length and a long, persistent finish. So drinkable now, but will be even better in two or three years. Try after 2024.” 97pts Suckling
The Bolgheri wine making zone has been termed as the ‘the golden oasis of Tuscany” – and it is here that the seeds of the Super Tuscan era were first planted, literally. In the 1960s the Tuscan wine industry was in need of a shake-up, and Bolgheri became one of the avant-garde areas that helped bring this region back to life. One of the tactics was to start a new trend of ‘non-conforming’ wines, and in 1968 an innovative style of wine – a Bordeaux-style red blend from vines often reported to have come from First-Growth Chateau Lafite-Rothschild – was created and dubbed, “The Super Tuscan”. And so from the land of the “Bolgheri greats” – La Macchiole, Sassicaia, and Ornellaia – comes Argentiera !
Tenuta Argentiera is the closest Winery to the sea in Bolgheri and is also the highest in elevation. The estate is a partnership between brothers Corrado and Marcello Fratini and the famous winemaking family Antinori In Etruscan times, the plateau on which it rests on was rich in agriculture, and coincidently, silver mines (hence the estate’s translated name “silversmiths”.) But it was during the mid to late nineties that this region’s popularity increased dramatically mainly due to the world class Super Tuscans being made their.
The flagship 2019 Argentiera Bolgheri Superiore has achieved the huge distinction of 97pts by Parker’s WA. This Bordeaux blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc rivals the greats like Sassicaia and Ornellaia in 2019 but at a much lover price. Highly collectible in this vintage. This is the wine insiders want.
