This wine is truly world class Tuscany at a tremendous price. Located in one of the sweet spots in the Classico Zone, Radda and home to some of the top houses like Panzano , Brancaia and Degli Dei. We find the possibly the most famous from this region Castello di Volpaia. Volpaia dates back to 1172. In 1250, Volpaia was a founding member of the Lega del Chianti (Chianti League). An interesting fact is Lorenzo della Volpaia (1446-1512), an architect, goldsmith, mathematician and clockmaker, founded a Florentine dynasty of clockmakers and scientific-instrument makers. He gained fame and honor and was a friend of Leonardo da Vinci and often gave him advice on technical problems; Lorenzo even took part in the discussions on the placement of Michelangelo’s David. They have absolutely nailed it with their 2019 Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva, the wine got 93 to 94pts by five of the top wine publications. 94pts by Wine Spectator is huge and both Vinous and Parker hailed the wine as “Fabulous”. Volpaia has been making this wine since 1967 where it has from strengths to strengths and always offers to quality for the money.
