2019 Worthy Sophia’s Cuvee
2019 Worthy Sophia’s Cuvee Worthy “Sophia’s Cuvée”, named after proprietor Gus Kalaris’ daughter, is the second label of “Axios” – the super premium Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Axios is the the Greek word for worthy. Worthy Sophia’s Cuvée enjoyed overnight success when this Cabernet Sauvignon dominated Bordeaux blend stormed into the market in 2001. Over the years Worthy has been recognized as a household name in cult wines.
This is one of the great value Napa Cabs that drinks like its three times the price. Owned by Gus Kalaris, the wine is a homage to his daughter. The wine is made by Bob Egelhoff who is one of the greats. He has made wines for Beckstoffer Vineyards, Robert Craig and Merryvale. Today he consults for Pahlmeyer, David Arthur and Axios, some of the finest names in Napa. He crafted the Wine Spectator 1997 wine of the year, the David Arthur Elevation 1147 Cabernet Sauvignon. Now what makes the 2019 Worthy Sophia’s Cuvee so great is that the wines is sourced from some of the finest vineyards in Napa like Beckstoffer, is made by one of Napa’s greatest Cabernet winemakers and it is made as if it’s a $100 plus bottle of Napa Cab. It mirror qualities and characteristics that you’d expect from much higher-end bottlings. When I can get a great price on the wine I offer it immediately. One of the greats for Napa Cab at the price.
