2020 Alta Vista Malbec Estate Alta Vista’s iconic wine, represents the benchmark among Argentine wines, crafted from the highest quality grapes from small vineyard parcels with low yields. Hand-picked grapes go through a double selection process on a sorting table. Alto is vinified in small, epoxy-lined concrete tanks which allow a gentle, precise vinification and extraction of polyphenols to produce an elegant wine. It is aged 14 months in new French oak barrels and at least 12 months in bottle.

Alta Vista is an Argentinian wine estate with vineyards in Mendoza and Salta. It was founded in 1998 and is owned by the d’Aulan family, the former owners of the Piper-Heidsieck Champagne house. In 2012, they also created the Altamana winery in the Maule Valley region of Chile.

Mendoza is by far the largest wine region in Argentina. Located on a high-altitude plateau at the edge of the Andes Mountains, the province is responsible for roughly 70 percent of the country’s annual wine production. The French grape variety Malbec has its New World home in the vineyards of Mendoza, producing red wines of great concentration and intensity.The province lies on the western edge of Argentina, across the Andes Mountains from Chile. While the province is large (it covers a similar area to the state of New York), its viticultural land is clustered mainly in the northern part, just south of Mendoza City. Here, the regions of Lujan de Cuyo, Maipu and the Uco Valley are home to some of the biggest names in Argentinian wine.

Cabernet Sauvignon – Malbec is a blend of two dark red grape varieties, both originally from the vineyards of Bordeaux. While Cabernet Sauvignon is still widely planted there, Malbec has found a new home in the high-altitude vineyards of Argentina. The Cabernet Sauvignon – Malbec blend is usually produced there, making dense, tannic wines with plentiful red and black fruit characters.
