2020 Black Stallion Cabernet Sauvignon
2020 Black Stallion Cabernet Sauvignon This handsome, well-structured wine deftly balances refined black fruits and subtle oak spices against fine-grained tannins. It has an elegance and polish that sets it apart, from the minty perfume to intricate fruits and a long finish. Best from 2026–2036. 92pts WE
Notes of crushed blackberries and black raspberries with baking spices, cedar and bark. Medium- to full-bodied with a chocolaty mouthfeel and firm, chalky tannins. Ripe and mellow finish. 91pts Suckling
This rich, fruit-forward wine calls for succulent, flavorful dishes such as grilled tenderloin with roasted shallots, creamy blue cheeses, pepper-rubbed pork chops or duck breast with grilled plums. Winemaker
Black Stallion has been awarded American Winery Of The Year At Wine Enthusiast’s 2023 Wine Star Awards and their winemaker Ralf Hondenried is one of the young stars making Napa Cab today. Quite simply this is a great buy. An absolutely insane Napa Cab at its price point. Definitely a case buy with free case shipping. Black Stallion is owned by the Indelicato family with Delicato Family Wines. They have made wine in California for more than 90 years. Located on the historic Silverado Trail in Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District, Black Stallion Estate Winery pays homage to the rich history of the 32-acre estate which was once home to the Silverado Equestrian Center. The property was purchased in 2010 by the Indelicato family, a fourth generation family-owned company founded in 1924. Sourcing from the most prestigious vineyards, the winery is committed to making only the most expressive wines. Today’s 2020 Black Stallion Napa Cabernet is a blend of small lots put together by Winemaker Ralf Holdenried. Ralf is UC Davis trained and has made wine all over California’s North Coast wine region. He also makes wine at William Hill among others and is in charge of north Coast winemaking for the whole Delicato Wine Group.
The wine is a steal at the price. With excellent scores, I tasted yesterday and the wine is a wow, superb richness, black fruits, silky on the palate and the finish and drinks with pedigree from the better lots it was sourced. A truly great Cab for the winter that does not break the bank.
