2020 Bodegas El Nido Clio
2020 Bodegas El Nido Clio This wine exhibits a glass-coating opaque purple color. It has an expressive nose of pain grille, brier, minerality and blueberry and blackberry overtones. This plush, opulent wine has great density, savory flavors and a very lengthy finish that gets better with age.
Glass-staining purple color. Explosive, alluring scents of blueberry, boysenberry, pipe tobacco, licorice and vanilla bean. Lush and broad but juicy and firmly built. Suave candied dark fruit flavors accented by floral and Asian spice qualities. Finished broad, juicy and impressively long, with echoing boysenberry and spice notes.
A blend of 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 24 months in French and American oak. The wine exhibits a glass-coating opaque purple color. The nose is expressive with pain grille, underbrush, brier, minerality, blueberry and blackberry fruit. On the palate is a plush, opulent wine with great density, savory flavors, and a lengthy finish.
Ever since the first release of Clio, this wine took the wine drinking public by storm. I had never seen anything like it and I have never seen anything like it since. Clio is a big red that at its price point simply blows everything else out of the water. The wine is pure opulence, brilliantly made and every vintage I have tasted which is all of them absolutely blows the palate away at the price. Chris Ringland is an Aussie Winemaker who has made more 100 point Parker wines than any other Winemaker. Seven years ago he decided to make some wine in Spain and Bodegas El Nido in Jumilla was born. Because of the incredible quality, this wine has become hugely popular and very hard to get. These are some of the most exciting wines to hit the scene in the last decade. I have a tiny allocation of the Bodegas El Nido Clio 2020 that will absolutely floor you. The Bodegas El Nido winery is located in the Valle de La Aragona, inside the Murcia district of Jumilla. The vineyards are 76.8 acres of very old Monastrell vines, over 100 years (also known as Mataró or Mourvèdre) all vaso trained and oriented northeast, and 28.8 acres of 30-year old Cabernet Sauvignon vines on north facing hills. A deep and inky masterpiece. From its aromatic nose bursting with dark ripe berries to its creamy tannins and intricate layers of cocoa and mocha, this wine is an opulent experience. Clio has been rated 91-97 points for the past 13 consecutive years by acclaimed wine critics. Will sell out fast. I’m taking a case home with me. As good as big red wine gets at this price.
