2020 Ch Canon Chaigneau Cuvee 8A Beton 750ML
2020 Ch Canon Chaigneau Cuvee 8A Beton 750ML The 2020 Cuve 8a Beton has more lift and certainly more complexity on the nose compared to the regular bottling. Slightly more tertiary in style, savory perhaps. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, black olive and tinged black fruit that define its saline finish. This is an excellent Lalande-de-Pomerol that is worth hunting down. Drink 2024-2038
Supple and generous, the 2020 8a hits the palate with exuberant dark red/purplish fruit followed by an array of floral and spice overtones that add complexity. The purity of the flavors is striking.
I taste a lot of Bordeaux and we sell a lot of Bordeaux. This wine stands out. The experts absolutely love the wine: “It’s a hidden gem.” Jeb Dunnuck, “worth hunting down.” Parker’s Wine Advocate, Vinous, “This is lovely, a Lalande to look out for.” Jane Anson and “Glorious… I imagine myself to be in Pomerol… an exceptional wine… Highly recommended… shockingly good.” Colin Hay. The 2020 Ch Canon Chaigneau 2020 Cuvee 8A Beton is a absolute steal, approachable and inviting with velvety tannins that slip across the palate like a silk sheet.
Château Canon Chaigneau is located then in the eastern side of the Lalande de Pomerol appellation on the Néac plateau which is a continuation of the Pomerol plateau, where the likes of Petrus, Lafleur, la Conseillante, and Clinet can be found. At Canon Chaigneau, we are lucky enough to have a terroir of clay, limestone & iron deposits; indeed very similar to those great names just to the south, a terroir adding genuine complexity and making for excellent, refined & age-worthy wines. Neac should actually be in Pomerol! A legendary winemaker, Thierry Garnaud has been in charge of making the wine since 1995, & will continue for some years to come. Thierry was winemaker at Cheval Blanc (sells for $800 plus) from 1988 – 2018, responsible for such 100 point legends as the 1990, ‘98, 2000, ‘03, ‘05, ‘06, ‘08, ‘10, ‘15 & 2016.
2020 is considered to be one of the finest vintages EVER for Pomerol and its surrounding vineyards. Warm and dry weather resulted in lush, rich wines! Nothing is overdone or over extracted – this is suave and extremely drinkable. I emphatically implore you to grab a case and enjoy!
