Champalou
Our family estate has been located in the Vouvray appellation, in the heart of the Loire Valley, since the 1980s. This is where we work with the king grape variety of the Loire, which we call Pineau de Loire here: Chenin. It allows us to age white Vouvray wines with multiple balances, sparkling or natural. Depending on the terroirs, our Chenin wines are dry, tender, semi-dry, mellow or syrupy.
Vouvray is a unique appellation of 2,200 ha of Chenin spread over 8 municipalities located between Amboise and Tours, on the right bank of the Loire.
Vouvray has always been associated with the vineyard and with gastronomy. It is said that, from the 4th century, Saint-Martin, Bishop of Tours, planted vines for the benefit of the clergy and the sick. Special pruning methods are still used today. Later, in 1936, Vouvray was the first terroir of Touraine recognized by the INAO as an Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée.
What marks the exception of our appellation is that Chenin is expressed in different facets. Depending on its terroir and its vinification, Vouvray wines can be sparkling, dry, semi-dry, mellow and syrupy.
