2020 Clos du Moulin aux Moines Auxey Duresses Monopole Vieilles Vignes
2020 Clos du Moulin aux Moines Auxey Duresses Monopole Vieilles Vignes Ripe, smoky wine offers delicious juicy red-cherry fruits and some firm tannins as a backdrop. The ripeness and open fruitiness are developing well. Great depth and a nice purity. Fresh, nice purity, almost a delicate complexity. Not a small wine, indeed one with a super line of flavor. Long and with good freshness. It’s serious and has lots of potential…
I am lucky enough to know some of the great palates and great minds that know red Burgundy. Some of them are clients. This is a wine that they all buy. One of the great insider values in red Burgundy.
I am always on the hunt for great red Burgundy, some of the greatest wines I have ever tasted, wines that awaken the senses like no other and blow us away as our palate’s develop. The most expensive wines in the world are red Burgundy, from very specific vineyards that have been defined for centuries down to the very row and who owns them. Today’s wine gives you all the qualities that makes these wines so exclusive but at a price that’s typical of any quality Pinot Noir from around the world. Clos du Moulin aux Moines is a landmark in the history of Burgundy. Located in the heart of the vineyards in Cote de Beaune, in the village of Auxey Duresses. This mythical “clos” has been farmed and harvested since its establishment by the Monks of the Abbey of Cluny, and then by those of the Abbey of Cîteaux since 962. The cellar dates back to the 11th century and their famous monopole vineyard is the foundation that holds it all together. A Monopole is a parcel of land with a climate name (lieu-dit) that belongs to a single owner, often is surrounded and protected by an old stone wall that surrounds the vineyard. Today’s wine that I strongly recommend is the Monopole old vine (Vieilles Vignes) bottling and is absolutely superb. The wine is the Clos du Moulin aux Moines Auxey Duresses Monopole Vieilles Vignes 2020. The vines were planted between 1954 and 1956. Old vines result in a wine that will have greater concentration and depth and more purity in its fruit flavors. They have a great winemaker Willy Roulendes who previously made wine for the excellent de Montille. The result is a very special wine that is superb now given time to open up, I suggest decant and has serious aging potential for years to come. Very little available, a true insider hidden gem that’s authentic and delicious.
