2020 Crous St Martin Chateauneuf-du-Pape Hommage A L’an
2020 Crous St Martin Chateauneuf-du-Pape Hommage A L’an Gorgeously silky with the essence of Châteauneuf fruit, blackberry, raspberry, damson, plum and such velvety tannins. Freshness, purity, depth and balance, a highly impressive, elegant wine. 5,000 cases made, likely to be very good value. Grown on sandy soils and galets roulés, fermented in stainless steel, aged in old barriques and stainless steel.” 94pts Decanter.
“Bright ruby. Expressive, mineral-accented red and blue fruit and floral scents are complicated by suggestions of smoky minerals and garrigue. Juicy and seamless in texture, offering raspberry and boysenberry flavors that become deeper with air while maintaining urgency. Shows solid, spicy thrust on the appealingly sweet, penetrating finish, which features smooth, slow-building tannins.” 93pts Vinous
“The 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage A L’An 1880 is cut from the same cloth, with charming Provençal notes of peppery garrigue, licorice, new saddle leather, and assorted red and black fruits. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a touch more concentration and depth, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. It will drink nicely for 10-25 years.” 93pts JD
More On The Winery: Crous St Martin is located in the north-east of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The origin dates from 1879 which coincides with the restauration of St Martin’s Cross (“Crous” in local provincial language), which the monks had installed to indicate the road to Chateauneuf. The soil is composed of river stones, the famous “galets roulés”. This layer of stones is sometimes several meters deep, and mixed with a brownish clay. From this soil the wine gets its depth and concentration. The stones cumulate the sun heat during the day, and reject it during the night. This Allows the vines to ripen perfectly which adds to the finesse and elegance of these rich wines.
The wines of Chateauneuf du Pape are noble wines of the Southern Rhone, the finest from this region. The name ‘House of the Pope’ came from the fact that the Pope found shelter here many, many years ago fleeing persecution. Today’s wine is an absolute steal, hard core Chateauneuf du Pape that I tasted last night and almost fell of my chair when I found out what we can offer it to you for. The 2020 Crous St Martin Chateauneuf is absolutely delicious, classic, rich , opulent, has huge scores of 94pts Decanter, 93pts Vinous and we have it priced at $31.99. I have tasted hundreds of Chateauneuf’s that are double this price and not as good. We will hold this price for the next 24 hour. Do not miss out. A great wine at a tremendous price.
