2020 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf-du-Pape Reserve 750ML Dark purple colour. On the nose chocolate, dark fruit, liquorice and minerals. On the palate full bodied, rich with silky tannins and high acidity and a long finish.

The Domaine de la Vieille Julienne was founded in the 17th century, and passed into the Daumen family in 1905. Long known for their excellent wines, the estate suffered a setback when the boundaries were drawn in the early 1900s. For better or worse, a line has to be drawn somewhere, and the D72 road seemed a nice place to demarcate on the northern end of Chateauneuf. Except that would have cut out Beaucastel… and no way that was happening… so there is this little sliver carved out to the northeast, allowing for the holdings of Beaucastel to be included in Chateauneuf.
