2020 Domaine du Cellier aux Moines Montagny 1er Cru Les Charmelottes
2020 Domaine du Cellier aux Moines Montagny 1er Cru Les Charmelottes Enveloping nose of orange blossom and perfectly ripe oranges with underlying complexity from long sur-lie aging. Then comes an expansive, yet energetic palate with the kind of concentration and richness we associate with Grand Cru from the Cotes d’Or. Stunning mineral freshness at the very long finish. From a very high-altitude, south-southwest facing site with vines planted in 1939. From organically grown grapes.
From vines planted in 1939 comes a glorious white burgundy that should not be missed. The wine comes from the great 2020 white Burgundy vintage that scored 97pts by Parker’s WA for the vintage. I could not believe what I heard. DRC Winemaker makes a white Burgundy that we could offer for under $80 a bottle that got huge press, 96pts by Suckling. This is a Wow! Wait till you taste it. The roots of Clos du Cellier aux Moines can be traced back 900+ years to the infamous Cistercian Monks that called Burgundy home. Phillippe Pascal after decades of as an executive at LVMH, working as CEO at the Moet Hennessy Group, decided to make Burgundy. In 2004 he purchased Cellier aux Moines, revitalized the operation and hired Marko Guillaume, whose resume includes stints at Arnoux-Lachaux and Domaine de la Romanée Conti, who’s wines sell for $1000 and up. Need I say more…… Due to huge demand we are taking orders now! Wine will be delivered end of the month.
